HOMEGROWN MUSIC: JORDAN BRUCE & THE DERELECTRICS

November 27th: Homegrown Showcase

Jordan Bruce creates unique, inspired music that blends all of the right influences—past and present. His distinctive lyrical sensibilities and the wealth of talent which comprises The Derelectrics, result in a refreshing and unpredictable concoction.

Jordan leads The Derelectrics with a laid-back maturity and thoughtful focus that is communicated through groove-oriented rhythm guitar, a sweet and versatile vocal style, and at times, idiosyncratic orchestration. Parts of a song will reveal a light-handed pop sensibility while another conjures up jazz-fused progressions and off-beat vocals. His message is often introspective, sometimes quirky, yet always accessible.

Just as Jordan pays homage to an eclectic blend of styles, he has attracted musicians equally diverse. This group of artists have shared the stage with the likes of Aaron Gillespie (Paramore), Mat Kearney, and the Black Crowes covering a range from Tito Puente to The Wailers. Tossing traditional plot lines and formulated compositions to the way side, this collaboration is continually evolving and exploring—Giving rise to an unmistakably authentic voice, not individually, but rather, as a collective.

Jordan Bruce and The Derelectrics are attracting listeners with various musical style preferences and blurring traditional genre lines in an undoubtedly satisfying way.

DICKIEVERSARY SHOW! DICKIE FEATURING DOSH

Wednesday, Nov. 23rd, 7pm

DICKIEVERSARY SHOW! DICKIE featuring DOSH

This date marks the night that Dick Prall and Kristina Priceman first met three years ago on Thanksgiving Eve! Over much musical talk – and whiskey -- the seeds were sown for what would quickly become the indie pop duo DICKIE and the rest is history. (Or hersory, depending on whom you ask.) DICKIE will be performing their debut album in its entirety, as well as many songs from Prall’s extensive catalog, as well as a few surprises.

The night also features Minneapolis multi-instrumentalist Martin Dosh, better known as DOSH. Dosh’s work with Andrew Bird in Lateduster and Fog gave him an experience that helped him begin to perform solo. In 2002, Dosh released his first album simply titled Dosh, recording most of the record by himself in his basement. The album developed a following in the local Twin Cities scene with City Pages voting him second on their annual “Picked to Click” list. The record was reviewed in Village Voice, URB, Flaunt, XLR8R, The Big Takeover and a number of online magazines. Dosh has toured extensively with Andrew Bird and contributed significantly to Andrew Bird’s albums, Armchair Apocrypha and Noble Beast.

“Call him a one-man band, a virtuoso, a gifted collaborator or a family man, Martin, Marty, Dosh or Dad, Minneapolis avant-rock luminary Martin Dosh is lauded by fellow musicians for his astounding solo, multi-instrumental abilities, mashing together elements of jazz, electro, hip-hop, minimalism, and ambient. A key collaborator with the likes of Andrew Bird, Redstart, Fog, Lateduster, and many others, Dosh has also shared the stage with Wilco, WHY?, Damo Suzuki, Gary Wilson, Golden Smog, Sole, My Morning Jacket, Tapes 'n Tapes, cLOUDDEAD, Sage Francis, Devendra Banhart, Kid Dakota, Alias, Themselves, Peanut Butter Wolf, P.O.S., Happy Apple, Joseph Arthur, Pizza Boys, the Bad Plus, The Jayhawks, Atmosphere, DJ Vadim and many more.”

DICKIE w/ Special Guest Live Broadcast

Dickie kicks off their upcoming Colorado mini tour, making their first stop at our very own Dick's Tap & Shake Room! Local Cedar Rapids band, Live Broadcast will kick off the night at 6PM.

"DICKIE is the exploration of subtle symphonies over creative prose, indie popped-out melodies, under innovative storytelling and original grooves. Veteran tunesmith Dick Prall has taken his wares and shared them with violinist Kristina Priceman to create a collection of dark, gorgeous, and oft-times moony sing-alongs that pins you to its finely tailored lapel and keeps you fastened there gladly throughout its ten-song entirety. The self-titled record comes in like a bellowing newborn, but settles into a pace of dynamic ebb and flow as it ages and ends with a Roy Orbison-styled recount of hopeful love that never bleeds into the saccharine."
